From a total of 600 European towns and cities of six Austrian municipalities, the highest category to reach the gold in the European Energy Award (R) . Three municipalities in Austria are now standing on the top of international rankings.

On 19 February 2010, at the Festspielhaus Bregenz the European Energy Award (R) awarded to the most energy efficient communities in Austria. The winning communities are distinguished by dedication and innovative measures for energy efficiency and climate protection and were produced for it by Environment Minister Nicholas Berlakovich with the European Energy Award (R) awards, the highest European award for energy-efficient communities.
